Clinical Symposium November 5-6, 2021
Welcome to the 2021 Boston Lymphatic Symposium!
At our last clinical symposium in 2018, the clinical focus of the symposium was upper extremity lymphedema. In 2021, the clinical focus of the symposium will be lower extremity lymphedema. Along these lines, during the first lunch break, there will be a break-out room where participants can view an anatomic dissection of a lower extremity, by Dr. Hiroo Suami, with a focus on lymphatic anatomy and a live Q&A. Similarly, as gynecologic oncology is one of the leading causes of lower extremity lymphedema in the United States, we will have a special session on this topic during the Symposium. Dr. Leslie Garrett, Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at BIDMC, will moderate a session where the current nodal management of gynecologic cancers will be reviewed as well as lymphedema risk and opportunities for prevention.
In partnership with LE&RN, we will bring attention to the Centers of Excellence (COE) Designation. Specifically, utilizing feedback from the LE&RN organization on the first round of COE applications and “What worked ... and what did not”, we will hold a session where Centers that obtained the COE designation share their experience with the application process.
Finally, we are excited to hold a special session on an exciting and relatively new technology in non-invasive lymphatic visualization – high frequency ultrasound. This technology may one day impact all individuals providing care to patients with lymphatic disorders. World leaders in this technology including Dr. JP Hong (South Korea), Dr. Giuseppe Visconti (Italy), and Dr. Akitatsu Hayashi (Japan) will lead a session on how this technology can be incorporated into a lymphatic practice.
As is true every year, the core of the symposium will be the world-renowned international and domestic faculty that kindly provide their time and expertise throughout the symposium. Moreover, our engaged attendees have always led to insightful conversation and debate in this burgeoning field!
